History
Family Computing and K-Power Magazines were two influencial magazines during the magical period of personal computers when there were many different operating systems and hardware platforms available to consumers. During the 1980's most computer magazines were devoted to one computer platform. Family Computing and K-Power were unique in that they supported and published type-in programs that were translated for many popular brands.
Some of the early home computer entries came from Apple, Atari, Colceco, Timex, Texas Instruments, Radio Shack, Commodore, and IBM--each running their unique version of the Basic programming language. The Family Computing and K-Power technical staff tackled the challenge of creating and translating programs that could work on all of these. The tutorials included with the programs explained to the readers how to incorporate the code from the magazine into their own creations.
